The Friendly Grocer

My Dad worked at a Furniture Store during the 20's and 30's and they bought their groceries from that friendly grocer. The store was named Kelley and Allmann Grocery and it was located on East Main Street. My Dad would pay the grocery bill each week and you would be sure my siblings and I would be there as there was always a brown paper bag with candy in it. What a treat and what caring for their customers. When I was in High School, my Grandmother always called her Grocery order in to a small store on South Broadway by the name of Bahney's. They knew what she wanted when she ordered meat and it was always a good cut of meat. The vegetables were always fresh. It would not be long before those groceries would arrive at our door and then I would help put them away and meat and milk would go into the icebox which sat
in the back porch. The owners of these small stores valued their customers and always tried to please each on. These small stores dotted the town, east, west ,north and south. When I was a small child there was a small neighborhood grocery just a few doors from our house. My Mom would send me down the alley to buy something she needed. I was just two. Can you imagine being able to do that today. Next post I will tell you about the grocery store my husband I had and how things changed. These are memories that need to be treasured in our hearts .
