Kitchen Friendships

In 1949, my three children and I were baptized, and Bob my husband and I, joined the First Presbyterian Church. It changed our lives. Since Aunt Carrie Geberin was Bob's Aunt she soon had me helping in the kitchen. The older ladies took the younger women under their wings and taught us well. The younger women were given the task of cleaning the celery, peeling potatoes, chopping onions and washing dishes. One day I was asked to help Mrs. Carrothers with the dressing that went into the bottom of the pans for the chicken casseroles. I had graduated. I could now help cook. Those dear ladies were our mentors and they taught us what real friendships were all about. I treasure the memories of those dear ladies and their dedication to the church. I also treasure their love for us as we worked together in the kitchen of the First Presbyterian Church. Age made no difference in our relationships.
